Po pierwsze, kukuruźnik to samolot kultowy, a po drugie jego miniatura od ICM jest naprawdę bardzo fajnym modelem. No i to tyle w kwestii stopniowania napięcia w recenzji… Natomiast, co warto podkreślić, ten zestaw to nie jest kontynuacja modeli Po-2 z ICM, które miały premierę w latach 2013-14. Mamy tutaj do czynienia z całkiem nowymi formami z roku 2020. Nie wiem co powodowało producentem, że tak szybko zdecydował się na odświeżenie opracowania, ale chociażby ze względu na ewidentny wzrost jakości trzeba tej decyzji przyklasnąć. Zawartość solidnego pudełka z bardzo ładnym boxartem (na którym ten samolocik wygląda wyjątkowo zawadiacko) to: Dwie ramki z szarego tworzywa – większa z elementami samolotu oraz mniejsza z uzbrojeniem Ramka z elementami przeźroczystymi Arkusz kalkomanii Instrukcja montażu i malowania Zaczynając od końca, to instrukcja prezentuje typowy dla ICM standard: klasycznie, bez fajerwerków, ale czytelnie i sensownie. Książeczkę rozpoczyna rysa historyczna oraz spis farb podanych dla dwóch producentów: Tamiya, co na plus, oraz Revell, który #nikogo. Szkoda, że zabrakło więcej producentów, ale na szczęście takie firmy jak AK Interactive oferują porządne zestawy farb do sowieckich maszyn. Instrukcja, krok po kroku, prowadzi nas po budowie modelu i wygląda na to, że te kroki są dosyć sensowne. Dodatkowo jasno pokazuje, gdzie trzeba coś nawiercić, lub w szczegółach opisuje montaż konkretnego podzespołu czy wariantu. Na ostatniej stronie wskazano rozmieszczenie naciągów, chociaż tutaj mogłoby to być jednak zrobione bardziej czytelnie (tak jak robi to Eduard). Na kolorowych ilustracjach dostajemy dwa warianty malowania w czterech pod-wariantach oznakowania. Pierwszy – ten brzydki, czarno-zielony – w wersji letniej i zimowej (w przypadku tego drugiego koła musimy zastąpić płozami). Drugi wariant, ten ładniejszy, to trójkolorowy kamuflaż szaro-ziemisto-zielony. No i tutaj mamy zgryz, bo z jednej strony dostajemy niezwykle efektowne malowanie sowieckie, a z drugiej mniej efektowne, ale za to z #pluszapolskiemalowanie. Kalkomanie wyglądają ok. Nie ma tutaj ani szału jak w Cartografie, ani tragedii. Jeżeli będą się dobrze nakładały, to na pewno model ozdobią, a nie oszpecą. Niestety nie znajdziemy tutaj kalkomanii na zegary ani imitacji pasów. Oszklenie kabiny w tym modelu wygląda jak odłamane tipsy, ale jest. I takie jak jest, wygląda całkiem przyzwoicie, aczkolwiek umówmy się – jego przejrzystość w kontekście ukazania detali i kunsztownego malowania wnętrza nie ma absolutnie znaczenia. Niemniej polerka tym tipsom się przyda. Wracając do szarego plastiku, to trzeba uczciwie powiedzieć, że ICM znacznie podniósł jakość swoich modeli w stosunku do tego, co wypuszczali kilka lat temu. Detale w większości są ładne i filigranowe. Szczególnie w kabinie. Na elementach znajdziemy ślady po łączeniu form i małe nadlewki, ale kluczowe w tym wypadku jest słowo “małe”. Obróbka będzie raczej formalnością niż walką z plastikową materią o wyłuskanie części z otaczającego ją tworzywa. Na przykład fotele ze stelażem są całkiem ładne i wystarczy je uzupełnić o imitacje pasów. Podoba mi się imitacja obicia siedziska i oparcia. Będzie można się tutaj pobawić w odwzorowanie skórzanego pokrycia. Tablice z budzikami trzeba malować ręcznie lub podmienić. Ten brak kalkomanii na zegary jest moim zdaniem dość bolesną wadą zestawu, bo kalka w połączeniu z tak ładnie wykonanymi tablicami robiłaby robotę. A jeżeli zechcemy podmienić, to na białym koniu wjeżdża Eduard ze swoją blaszką Zoom. Wnętrze kadłuba ozdobiono imitacją kratownicy. Na tyle delikatną, że stawia to pod znakiem zapytania sens wykorzystania blaszki Eduarda. Silnik, chociaż nie może konkurować z żywicznym zamiennikiem, wcale nie straszy. Po włożeniu w niego trochę pracy można uzyskać naprawdę ładny podzespół modelu. Oczywiście obróbka cylindrów ze śladów łączenia form narobi pewnie spustoszenia w ich ożebrowaniu, ale po jego odtworzeniu i tak wszystko to nie powinno wyglądać źle. Warto także nawiercić otwory w wydechach. Można też wykorzystać nie tak spektakularny zamiennik Pavli i uzupełnić o blaszki Eduarda oraz dodatki własne. Krawędzie spływu są całkiem cienkie. W moim odczuciu bardzo fajnie oddano imitacje ugięć płótna na płatach i powierzchniach sterowych. Niemniej fajnie wyglądają chodniki dla załogi i drobne detale na obu płatach. Imitacja powierzchni kadłuba sympatycznie odzwierciedla kilka rodzajów materiałów poszycia, co można jeszcze podciągnąć trikami malarskimi. Zestaw bomb również wygląda ładnie, chociaż lotki warto pocienić. Natomiast karabin tylnego strzelca, jak na wtrysk, to jest wręcz bardzo dobry. Po wymianie lufy i celownika (elementy tego drugiego znajdziemy na blaszce Eduarda) będzie na pewno przyciągał wzrok w gotowym modelu. No chyba, że chcemy iść na całość i wymienić go na biżuterię od Mini World. Koła nie są najmocniejszym punktem modelu, ale na szczęście można znaleźć zamienniki np. z ResKit. Podsumowując: Po-2 z ICM to naprawdę bardzo fajny model, który nawet prosto z pudła może być ozdobą kolekcji, pod warunkiem kilku poprawek i drobnych własnoręcznych waloryzacji, a jeżeli chce się z niego zrobić małe cacko, to na pomoc przychodzą jeszcze producenci dodatków. The only game in town had been the venerable KP kit. While a good kit, KP doesn’t provide a lot of detail and some of the molding is clunky. It’s long in the tooth, and we deserve a new Po-2. The ICM kit, on the other hand, is molded beautifully and features state of the art delicate detailing. The Kit The 104 part kit is molded in brownish gray styrene with semi-matte finish and very fine molding gates. The one piece wings have the sharpest trailing edges that I’ve ever seen on an injection molded kit. Holding the wing up to the sun easily shows how thin that trailing edge is. I removed the fuselage halves and lower wing to test fit for this review. The tiny locating pins in the fuselage halves click together and shouldn’t need any filler. In fact, you can put the halves together, and shake it without the other half flying off! The pins and sockets are molded into the edges and there are no sink marks that I could find. The lower wing has an edge where the fuselage drops in, so the wing/fuselage joint will not require any filler. Details The fuselage sides have ribs and details molded in. They may seem a little shallow even in 1/72 but it’s just fine. If you got really inspired, you may think about replacing that with photo-etch bits, but I wouldn’t. One possible issue is on the fuselage sides; the shallow injector pin marks may be visible. Since they are located below the fuselage ribs, they’re largely obscured. A small dollop of Mr. Surfacer in the shallow will take care of it. I wouldn’t even bother sanding that. The four piece bombs are beautiful things. I like to use Ambroid to cement parts, but I can see that would be impossible here. The fins are extremely thin; Ambroid would wreck them in a second. The machine gun is equally fine. It’s a little gem. Decals & Markings I generally distrust matte decals as I frequently see those in older decals, such as the ESCI ones. These are brand-new and I’m assuming they’ll be sturdy things. The decals are quite thin, which should make dropping them in place a cakewalk. Without any engraved panel lines, it makes it that much easier too. The only real terrain they will need to adhere to will be the rib detail on the wings. Easy. The kit provides a wheels/ski option, and there are markings for both. The ski variant incorporates a snow scheme and the weathering possibilities are extensive. The wheeled variant has markings for a few aircraft. The register of the red stars is spot-on. In addition to those, white patriotic slogans are included for the fuselage sides. I wish the decal paper were light blue, as scanning white-on-white shows nothing. Options There have been so many uses for the Po-2 in its long history that you could literally build Po-2s for the rest of your life and never duplicate markings. I’ve built a 1/48 Gavia Po-2 as a North Korean nuisance bomber and had a great time doing it. Next up ... the Night Witches. Don’t forget the civil uses too! People get freaked out about the rigging but this one is really easy. All the rigging lines are singled up, not double. It’s a single bay biplane, making the chore that much easier. The upper wing on the Po-2 seems higher than it should be, which means that it’s easier to get in there to attach your lines. And again, since it’s a single bay biplane, it makes wing construction/alignment much easier. Conclusion Buy this kit. It’s easily the best Po-2 that I’ve ever seen although I’m sure there’s some resin gem out there that I’ve not seen yet. I was able to only find one weakness in the barely visible ejector pin shallows. The rest of the molding is just beautiful, and the engineering is excellent. At US$ you can’t beat this for value. I bought one and know I’ll buy one or two more; this is a subject that just screams “collection”.
